GCB News

We often receive news from the GCB which we are then asked to send on to clubs. We don't think this is the most effective way to deal with these items, although some of them may be very relevant and important to your club. We believe that sending too many emails will result in you not opening them. Rather than this method, all news received from the GCB will appear on our SDCA GCB pages. We will occasionally send clubs a reminder to keep viewing these pages but this will be your responsibility. These pages will be here until the GCB launches its own news website later in 2010.

GCB AGM

One important bit of GCB news - the GCB AGM will take place on Thursday 11th February 2010 at The Prince of Wales Hotel, Berkeley Road (GL13 9HD) at 7pm.

Senior Fixtures

A full list of 2010 senior fixtures are now on the Play Cricket website. Remember that all results should be entered via play-cricket this season - we will not be using result cards. Therefore you should ensure that you have your Play Cricket site ready for the forthcoming season.

Evening Leagues

A full report of the 2009 Evening League season is now available. We are hoping to open the competition up to include more social sides in 2010. Contact keith.atkinson@tiscali.co.uk for further details.

League Sponsorship

Following the end of our deal with MGM, the SDCA are on the lookout for new sponsors for 2010. Sponsors are not limited to sports companies - we will happily talk to anyone - and the amount of money involved is not exhorbitant. If you know of anyone who might be interested (and any sponsorship gained helps keep your costs down) please contact us at admin@sdca-cricket.co.uk

The Problem of Umpires

The SDCA hope to host an Introduction to Umpiring Course in Spring 2010. The league has a continuing problem with a lack of umpires and this does cause problems. The main issue with clubs and umpires as far as I see is neutrality. I've been on the Introductory Course but when I stand as umpire for my club I simply don't enjoy it because opposition teams naturally assume I'm a 'home' umpire and treat my decisions as such. One possible solution is for people interested in umpiring (who have attended an Introductory Course) to offer to umpire at neutral venues as an Appointed Official. I intend to stand at 5 or 6 games next season in this manner, and have the agreement of the Stroud Umpires Association to do so. If you feel you might like to do the same please email admin@sdca-cricket.co.uk for further information.
