Evening League Rules

Evening League Report 2009 - by Keith Atkinson

This year the leagues were once again split regionally, with 10 sides entered. League A, was topped by Stone who won all 5 matches of their played.
In this league there were problems of a team fielding players who were not eligible.

P W L C A Points
Stone 8 5 0 1 2 23
Oldlands 8 4 2 2 0 18
Frampton 8 3 2 1 2 15
Cam 8 1 4 2 1 7
Uley 8 0 5 2 1 3

League B, was topped by Painswick with 5 wins from 6 played. This league also has its problems, with Leonard Stanley not able to fulfil fixtures and eventually withdrawing from the league.

P W L C A Points
Painswick 8 5 1 2 0 22
K Stanley 7 2 1 4 0 12
Chalford 8 1 3 3 1 8
Frocester 7 0 1 5 1 6
L Stanley 8 0 2 6 0 0

As organiser I question where this league fits in the SDCA calendar.
The Cup competitions are well supported, and I can see that there is a strong setup in the Gloucester area for a 20-20 league, with 6 divisions, teams are not all traditional clubs.

Points raised from my first season being responsible for this competition.

• Are the rules prohibitive to teams entering.
• Should cancelled matches (due to the weather), be lost not rearranged. (as Saturday)
• Should we open the competition to social sides.
• Player eligibility – does it matter where people play ‘Saturday’ cricket, if you only play for one side in this competition.
• Regional or result based leagues.
• Why is it so hard for clubs to report match result.

Moving forward. 2010

After discussions at the SDCA AGM. There are going to be changes to the setup.

1. Social sides may enter the competition.
2. Player restrictions removed, so that players can play for any team, but only for one team.
3. Leagues will be changed to represent strength. Tops sides from 2009 to make up top division.
4. Results to be supplied by SMS, number to be supplied.
5. No rain affected matches to be rescheduled.

Full results from 2009 can be found on SDCA Play Cricket.
