Pool Round May 20th

Hardwicke V Frocester 2

Frocester won the toss and elected to bat. 5 overs each from Adam Taylor and Chris Hutchings resulted in Frocester being 36 for 2 from 10 overs. Frocester , however, used their experience to turn the screw and increase the run rate eventually ending up 120 all out from 20 overs with A Bray hitting 39 and Sean Little 27. The pitch providing some variable bounce and assistance to the Hardwicke bowlers - D Burt took 4-28 from 4 overs and M Chapple 4-24 from 3 coupled with excellent fielding and catching from D. Burt and S. Parry.

Hardwicke batted 2nd in poor light and were soon 4 for 2 from the 1st over and 7 for 3 from the 3rd over. Balls at one end were now shooting through about ankle level and claiming wickets on a good length.
The struggling continued with HCC 48 for 7 from 10 overs before the ship steadied with the openers bowled out. Hardwicke slowly put together a score with some lusty blows from D. Burt 25 and top score from S. Parry - 26 adding to a useful 19 from opener J. Rouse. Hardwicke closed on 103 for 9 wickets feeling frustrated that the wicket had played a big part early on. For Frocester II J Rymell took 4-22 and Tom Furley 2-23

Man of the Match D Burt for fine overall performance as a youth player. Well done Frocester!

Whitminster v Eastcombe

ELECTING TO BAT WHITMINSTER MADE A BRIGHT START RACING TO 31-0 OFF 4 OVERS WITH GRAHAM TOMS(24) PUNISHING LOOSE DELIVERIES. HOWEVER JER WARD'S THIRD OVER BROUGHT HIM 3 WICKETS GETTING RID OF TOMS AND ALSO WOODHAM AND CHANDLER WITHOUT THEM TROUBLING THE SCORERS, KEV PRING JOINED IN ON THE ACT CLAIMING TWO QUICK WICKETS AND A SMART RUN OUT FROM TIM PHILLIPS PUT EASTCOMBE IN CONTROL. IT WAS A STRUGGLE FROM HERE FOR WHITMINSTER HAVING ONLY NINE PLAYERS AND THEY FINISHED 57 ALL OUT. TIM PHILLIPS 31* AND DAVE GEE 24* MADE LIGHT WORK OF THE TARGET DESPATCHING THE BALL TO THE BOUNDARY AND THEY RACED TO THE TARGET IN 8.4 OVERS.

Chalford v Minchinhampton

A young and makeshift Minch side visited county league Chalford in the new style cup and their lack of experience was made to pay! Bowling first Minch made a great start as Tom Shearman took a wicket in the first over to remove Webster LBW. However Pete Bovey had other ideas, taking a particular liking to the bowling of Tom Horrell he dispatched boundaries to all parts of the ground with clean hitting. Combined with Stallard (40) they put on a huge stand as Chalford reach 100 inside 9 overs. However Jaime Waring removed both players with slow balls and Minch clawed back some dignity by restricting the last 8 overs to just 50 runs - Chalford still posting a daunting 184. Young Josh Jones bowled superbly and was unlucky not to get a wicket.

Minch started slowly, Horrell, Cresswell, Waring all made starts but couldn't push on. However a good stand of 50 between James Green (26) and Brad Mears (32) was the highlight of the innings but the runs were not coming fast enough and Minch were in the end well short on 110 for 8. Baber was the pick of Chalfords bowlers with 3 for 20.

Coaley v Hardwicke

Hardwicke batted 1st and got off to a good start with A. Pierce 36 and D. Burt 28. Good opening bowling from Rendell and Wilcox. Introduction of slow bowlers brought wickets and slowed run rate. Late lusty blows from both C. Watts 33 and S. Parry 33 brought a final total of 152 for 7.

Coaley batting struggled early on with a wicket down in the 1st over. Good bowling from M. Medland and D. Hansell up front followed by some poor stuff from Captain M. Chapple. Coaley batsmen struggled to score freely but Wilcox 31 and Goring 34 not out kept the Hardwicke guys busy in the field. Hardwicke dropped at least 8 catches and looked slack in the field (no names here). The win sees Hardwicke into the next round against Woodchester, thanks to Coaley for a good game played in a friendly fun spirit with excellent after match hospitality.

Hardwicke v Woodchester

Played at Woodchester due to an U11 fixture clash. Thanks to Woodchester for hosting the game.
Woodchester won the toss and elected to bat 1st. Hardwicke were packed with 7 x U17 players, Tyrone Vincent opened the bowling with Steve Oakes and Tyrone soon had Woodchester reeling at 10 for 4 having taken 4 wickets in 2 overs for 4 runs. The 2nd over being a triple wicket maiden. With Steve finishing on 1-28 and Dustin Burt 1-8, it left Curtis Watts to finish with 4 wickets for 10. Some lusty blows to the boundary from top score L. Smith (20) kept the score moving with Woodchester eventually bowled out for 62 from 14 overs.

Hardwicke started well with Jordan Rouse hitting cleanly to all parts, top scoring on 32 not out.At 36 for 1 it looked a simple job. Captain Chris Smith bowled well and took 2 for 11 along with D. Skein 1 for 15 and J. Mills 1 for 19. Hardwicke were suddenly 40 for 4 and things looked interesting.Mark Chapple batted for the 1st time in the competition to steady the ship (14 not out) and sensible batting with Jordan Rouse they saw the team home with 10 over to spare. Hardwicke 63 for 4 from 10 overs.

Man of the match has to be young Tyrone Vincent who bowled superbly, 4 overs, 2 maidens, 4 wickets, 7 runs - probably the best of the competition to date.

Hardwicke v Avening & Cherington - Semi Final (by Hardwicke)

Hardwicke won the toss and elected to bowl with Tyrone Vincent and Chris Hutchings up front. Both guys bowled well and applied pressure against the attacking batsmen. Tyrone finishing with 1 for 22 from 4 and Hutcho with 4 for 23 from 5.
The Avening batsmen of A. Venn and M. Alley both batted very well in the middle order with 34 and 38 runs with some very hard hitting shots to the boundary (and body!).M. Chapple finally bowled towards the end to slow down the pace and the scoring, finishing with 3 for 10 from 3 overs and a knackered egg shaped wrist (see above). Avening finished 130 all out, probably 20 more than they should have.

Hardwicke soon lost opener A. Pierce caught off the most bizarre slow wide ball he should never have got anywhere near. This was soon followed by J. Rouse against probably the quickest bowling we have faced for a few years. Thank goodness the guy is not in our League on a Sat and that he was also a little wayward. J. Taylor and S. Oakes finally got the measure of the bowling and hit some cracking big boundaries scoring 40 and 22. There was little else from the Hardwicke batsmen who did not perform like they can and finally fell short on 103 all out in the final over Avening & Cherington main bowling was: M . Alley - 3 for 23 from 5, A. Venn - 2 for 6 from 4, J. Richings - 2 for 29 from 5 and J. Clark - 3 for 6 from 2.

Hardwicke competed well for most of the game, and came away satisfied after their first season in the competition with at least 5x U17 players in the team every game. Well done to all you guys. Congratulations to Avening & Cherington and good luck for next weeks final.
