Minutes of Meeting held 13th April 2010
Present : Dave Howell, David Gee, Rich Lane, Dave Thomas, Mike Hanks, Ken Gleed, Eric Woodmason, Ian Hogg, Jim Clarkson and John Hawkins. Apologies for absence: Rob Helliwell.
1. League Matters
MH noted a couple of fixture changes due to Frocester Beer Festival. Stone will now play Frocester on April 24th instead of July 19th. The reverse fixture will be played on 19th July instead of August 28th, it was also noted that MH has turned down a request from Woodchester to switch a fixture due to very late notice. Slimbridge, Rockhampton & Bisley will all be fined £10 for non attendance of the registration meeting. The new results format was again made very clear to all clubs.
2. Treasurers Report
RL informed the committee that the bank mandates have been switched to the new committee members. It has been decided that the Premier League balls would be charged at £8 per ball which is only just above cost price - this represents a very good deal to the clubs and is a concession probably for this season only as they now have to buy a ball per game - it may not be possible to do again because DT anticipates we will not order so many balls next season and therefore the extra discount gained will not be available. The accounts reflect a greater spend this year as two years worth of trophies were bought to take advantage of the VAT reduction and bulk buy deals.
3. Youth Cricket
DH noted that all fixtures have now been arranged. Cirencester have left the league to be part of the Cotswold District, Rockhampton and Tetbury have joined. The U9 festivals are being arranged. The District festival this year will be at U10 Age Group.
4. K.O. Cups
DH made the draw for the first round of the cup and all fixtures are to be played on May 18th if not May 20th. The draw for round 2 and the plate will follow, and at this stage the draw will be organised all the way through to the final. Clubs are advised to let John Hawkins know the results and also email the website. No venue has been arranged for the finals, this will be arranged after the semi finals.
5. 20/20 Wednesday League
10 teams have entered and there are two divisions of 5. Pink balls were supplied to each team courtesy of On the Limit who also sponsor Division 1.
6. Umpires Rep
JC reported that there is a major shortage of umpires. The SDCA made the situation very clear, COURSES WERE OFFERED AND THERE WERE NO TAKERS FROM ANY OF THE SDCA CLUBS. Therefore the clubs can not complain when they do not receive an umpire. It was also noted that the SDCA would like all clubs to utilise senior players to do longer stints as umpires to avoid any problems. The captains need to speak and make sure any issues are resolved sensibly at that stage and in the Spirit of Cricket.
7. GCB Rep
League restructure – WEPL and the GCCL are in discussions re restructuring its leagues with proper relegation and promotion between the Districts taking place.
GCB Website - the GCB is currently in the process of creating a new website. A tender document has been produced and a shortlist of 4 companies has been decided.
NatWest OSCA's - this is an opportunity to identify those people who deserve recognition for their contribution to cricket. OSCAs are split into differing categories - the ceremony will take place at Lord's.If there is anyone you think deserves an OSCA please feel free to nominate .
Affilliation Fees – The GCB will collect these fees direct from clubs, this will save RL some work but clubs need to be aware that this is the situation. This year's fee is £40 per club, however this will be tiered next year depending on the status of the club.
Non-Executive Director Elections – The GCB EGM takes place on the 26th April and there are 3 candidates looking to fill 2 positions. As of March 24th 47 clubs and 8 associations had applied for GCB membership. The SDCA has affilliated.
8. AOB
MH brought up the topic of the World Cup. The SDCA clubs are reminded this is the cricket season, but with approval of both team captains can start early if required.
DT noted that a sponsor is required for the Youth Cricket, anyone who knows any interested party please contact him.
Derrick Ind and Jim Cunneen have been presented with a small token for their years of service to the SDCA
Date of the next meeting is Monday 17th May 2010 at Frocester Cricket Club.
