SDCA News

Following their confirmation as SDCA champions, Slimbridge 1st XI have applied to join Division 5 of the County league - we wish them well. Our AGM is due to take place in November where hopefully the make-up of the leagues for 2012 will then be known. The County league are currently deciding whether to limit its leagues to 90 clubs - should this be noted in, as many as 7 clubs may be returning to the SDCA...which will make league formation rather testing. The SDCA is also looking for a volunteer to be secretary in 2012 - should you be interested in this or any other role within the SDCA please contact admin@sdca-cricket.co.uk

Premier League Awards

During the final league games, SDCA representatives travelled to grounds awarding several trophies for performances during the season. In the Premier League Rob Gummer (Slimbridge) received an Exceptional Performance Award for his 9-26 against Minch on 11th June, Ben Spires (Tormarton) received an Exceptional Performance Award for his spell of 8-37 against Bisley and Ben Ward received the SDCA Martin Berrilll Player of the Month Award for June for scores of 54, 51, 89 and 136. We can also announce that Graham Toms of Whitminster will receive An Exceptional Performance Award for several notable performances including 8-24 against Frocester IV. Congratulations to all.

Important Advice for Clubs

A reminder that the Laws of Cricket have changed (Law 3.8) so that it is the sole responsibility of the umpires to decide whether it is safe and reasonable for play to take place. No relevance is given to the state of the match and no consulation is needed with the players i.e. batsmen are not 'offered the light' etc. The SDCA has also amended some league rules this season - regarding teams defaulting on fixtures - they will now be deducted 20 points should this occur. In addition, bonus points have been amended - batting points now start at 100 rather than 75 and clubs receive bonus points for bowling the opposition out for less than 100.

Help with Wickets

Chalford's Pete Bovey is looking to expand his work as a Groundsman and is happy to offer advice or, indeed, prepare wickets for Stroud League clubs. The cost is very reasonable - if you require help please contact Pete on 07771 255201.
