Frocester A confirmed as Under 13 League A Winners
Frocester A are confirmed as winners of League A after winning 4 of their 5 games played (other was cancelled). There are no declared winners of League B - Stone are top but have only played two games - which is not enough games to declare them valid champions. Overall the amount of games plapyed in the two leagues has been disappointing - especially in League B - and Youth Cricket in general will need a rethink at the end of the season. The three leagues organisers will be meeting later this month to review the season and a Youth Metting will be organised for September where you will be able to air your views.
Hardwicke defeat Chalford to Claim U13 K.O. Cup
On a fabulous summer evening Avening & Cherrington hosted the U13 Cup final between Hardwicke and Chalford. Chalford won the toss and elected to field. The Hardwicke openers of J Hutchings and T Wichelo started carefully against some tight bowling of C Davis & C Bentley. Hutchings and Wichelo soon got into their stride each hitting the boundary at regular intervals before Hutchings missed a straight one from Hyland for 18. Wichelo was then run out shortly after for 12. Lowman scored quickly before being bowled by Lingard for 14. Then followed a couple of quick wickets to leave Hardwicke on 67 for 5 after 13 overs. Then enter Ed Fryer who hit 2 huge 6's and 2 fours before finally being caught for 26. Some good hitting at the end by T Gutteridge 10 and D Green 6no saw Hardwicke to a respectable 120 for 8 off 20 overs. The pick of the Chalford bowlers being Lingard with 3 for 17 from 3 overs. After the interval the Hardwicke bowlers of Hutchings and Lowman bowled very straight only conceeding 5 runs from the first 4 overs with Hutchings cleaning up Eagles in the third over. With the rate increasing Davis and Thompson began to take the attack to Hardwicke and were scoring at a good rate before Davis was caught off the bowling of Wichelo for 13. Black and Thompson continued to score well before Black 9 was bowled by young Jack Mace. A succession of quick wickets fell as Chalford tried to score at an ever increasing run rate with fryer taking a good caught and bowled. When the opening bowlers came back Hutchings bowled Thompson for a very well made 30. Hutchings the pick of the bowlers finishing on 3 for 5 from 4 overs ably supported by Lowman with 3 for 16 from 4 overs. Hardwicke worthy winners in what was a very entertaining game played in a good spirit.
